Family status

Are the spouses still married, divorced, separated?
The family status is independent of union events. One may enter a marriage event, but not enter other events for the couple, but clarify the family status as «Separated».
Specify the family status in the Add or Choose Spouse screen or Families area of the Personal Data tab.
Customize union status
Your ancestors didn’t marry and didn’t live together, and none of the union statuses proposed by Heredis are suitable?
Starting with Heredis 2025, you can customize the family status.
Click on the Family status,
- either in the add spouse window,
(Windows) Family Status in add spouse window
(Mac) Family Status in add spouse window
Note: if the family status does not appear, click on the cogwheel to switch the display to Comprehensive mode. If necessary, enlarge the Family Details area by dragging the splitter downwards.
- either in the Personal data tab in the Families tab.

Choose Other status.
Enter your preferred term in the blank field on the right. For example, war lovers or childhood sweethearts.
