You can also click the Close button in the upper (<strong>Mac<\/strong>) left, (<strong>Windows<\/strong>) right corner of the file.<br \/>\n\u2022 To close all open Heredis documents, press (<strong>Windows<\/strong>) Ctrl-Q; (<strong>Mac<\/strong>) the Option ( <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-354\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/options_alt.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"19\" height=\"17\" \/>) key, then click the <strong>Close<\/strong> button of the active document.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Info <\/strong>\u2022 If you have made changes since you last saved the file, Heredis will invite you to save it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: When you close Heredis, wait a few mintues before to shut down your computer, Heredis can take some time to close properly. If you shut down too quickly your computer and Heredis didn&#8217;t finish to save the modifications you made, you will damage your file. It only takes a minute so please be patient. Computers are just like genealogy, they require patience \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Reopen a genealogy file<\/h3>\n<p>Select your genealogy from the <strong>(Windows)<\/strong> <strong>Recent Files<\/strong>, <strong>(Mac)<\/strong> <strong>Open <\/strong>submenu<\/p>\n<p>or (<strong>Mac<\/strong>) dou\u00adble-click the file in the Finder.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>(Windows)<\/strong> click on <strong>Open a Heredis file<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13543\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/open_file_main_page_pc.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"453\" height=\"229\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> (Mac)<\/strong> click on <strong>Heredis File<\/strong> on the <strong>Open <\/strong>section, then click on <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13549\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/open_file_mac-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If your file is not on the recent files, it doesn&#8217;t mean it has been deleted! Heredis will never delete your file!<\/p>\n<p>The recent files list might have been cleaned by your operating system or by you after a spring cleaning.<\/p>\n<p>Your file is stored on your hard drive disk. It can easily be found. However, you should make regular backups of your file in case your computer crashes or you need to reinstall your operating system etc. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/save-a-genealogy-file-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to save your file<\/a> article.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows Info<\/strong>: If you don&#8217;t remember where to find your file on your hard drive disk, click on <strong>Search<\/strong> <strong>File on Hard Drive<\/strong>. Heredis will scan your hard drive searching for all Heredis and GEDCOM file format.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mac Info:<\/strong> If you don&#8217;t remember where to find your file on your hard drive disk, open your Finder and write <em>.hmw<\/em> in the search bar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Close a genealogy file<br \/>\nWhen you have finished working with a genealogy file, you can close it without leaving Heredis.
