These fields are automatically prefilled with the data already entered for this person in your genealogy.<\/p>\n<p>If you click on the <strong>More criteria<\/strong> button, additional search fields for the primary person\u2019s parents and spouse will appear, which should allow you to refine your search on FamilySearch. The <strong>Reset<\/strong> button will delete the content of all search fields displayed on the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the <strong>Search<\/strong> button, Heredis will directly access FamilySearch servers and display the list of persons found.<\/p>\n<p>If you click on a person in the list of results, detailed information on the FamilySearch person you selected will be displayed in the <strong>Summary<\/strong> side panel.<\/p>\n<p>If a person listed in the results seems to correspond to your primary person, click on the <strong>Compare<\/strong> button at the end of the line to compare the Heredis and FamilySearch persons in details.<\/p>\n<p><em>Compare Heredis to Family Search.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9227\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_comparaison_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"986\" height=\"739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_comparaison_EN.png 986w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_comparaison_EN-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_comparaison_EN-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_comparaison_EN-800x600.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 986px) 100vw, 986px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To make it easier for you to compare the two, Heredis displays the Heredis primary person\u2019s immediate family next to the immediate family of the FamilySearch person you selected.<\/p>\n<p>If you click on the <strong>Link<\/strong> button, Heredis will attach the FamilySearch person\u2019s ID number to the primary person in your Heredis genealogy file.<br \/>\nThe two persons are now linked.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not wish to link the two persons together, click on the <strong>Back<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<h4>2) The primary person is linked to a FamilySearch Person<\/h4>\n<p>If the individual displayed as the primary person in Heredis is already linked to a person in FamilySearch, Heredis displays a window showing the data already saved for this person in Heredis next to the corresponding data saved in FamilySearch.<\/p>\n<p><em>Family Search Linked Person.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9239\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_linked_person1_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"986\" height=\"739\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_linked_person1_EN.png 986w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_linked_person1_EN-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_linked_person1_EN-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/family_search_linked_person1_EN-800x600.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 986px) 100vw, 986px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>3) The primary person is linked to a FamilySearch person who has been deleted<\/h4>\n<p>Heredis informs you in the banner of the<strong> Primary person<\/strong> tab that the FamilySearch ID number was not found.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to link this person to another FamilySearch person, click on the <strong>Unlink<\/strong> button displayed in the banner.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Consult the History<\/h3>\n<p>Directly from Heredis, you can consult the history of modifications that have been made to the FamilySearch record of the linked person. Click the History button to access it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4650\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/family_search_historic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"668\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Modifications made in FamilySeach after your import is processed will not be automatically updated in your file.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Import<\/h3>\n<p>From this tab, you can import a FamilySearch branch into a Heredis genealogy file.<\/p>\n<p>To access it:<br \/>\nClick on the following tabs: <strong>Search &gt; FamilySearch &gt; Import<\/strong><br \/>\nor select from the menu: <strong>File &gt; Import &gt; FamilySearch&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Family Search Import.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2327 size-full alignnone\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/family_search_import.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"986\" height=\"739\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>\u00a01) Set the parameters for your import<\/h3>\n<p><em>Source Person<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yourself: select this option to recover all or a portion of the genealogical data you have already entered in FamilySearch.<\/li>\n<li>Primary person in Heredis: if the individual displayed as the primary person in Heredis is already linked to a person in FamilySearch, you can select this option and thus complete his\/her ancestors or descendants thanks to the data already gathered in FamilySearch\u2019s global tree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: if the primary person is not linked to a person in FamilySearch, this option is greyed out.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FamilySearch ID number: enter a person\u2019s FamilySearch ID number in order to retrieve a FamilySearch branch that will complete your genealogy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Additional Options<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Choose the number of generations for ancestors and descendants (limited to 5 maximum).<br \/>\nTick <strong>Import Children of ancestors<\/strong>\u00a0to retrieve the primary person\u2019s siblings, uncles, aunts, etc.<br \/>\nYou may also tick <strong>Import Alternate Names<\/strong> to retrieve additional names that might have been entered in FamilySearch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: if you set the number of generations for ancestors and descendants to 1, the import will include the Source person and his\/her spouse(s).<\/p>\n<h4>2) Imported data<\/h4>\n<p>When you click on the <strong>Import<\/strong> button, the following information is retrieved from FamilySearch\u2019s global tree:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>persons<\/li>\n<li>events<\/li>\n<li>notes<\/li>\n<li>sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All the persons imported into your Heredis genealogy are linked to in FamilySearch\u2019s global tree and are recognizable thanks to their FamilySearch ID number.<\/p>\n<p>Rules applied during data import from FamilySearch to Heredis:<br \/>\nWhen importing persons from FamilySearch, you may face a number of situations such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the person to be imported is already in your genealogy with the exact same FamilySearch ID (FSID): this person will not be imported again to prevent the creation of duplicates; the import process will move on to the ancestors\u2019 or descendants\u2019 branch, according to your import settings.<\/li>\n<li>the person to be imported is already in your genealogy but does not have a FamilySearch ID (FSID) number or the FSID number is different: this person and his\/her ancestors\u2019 or descendants\u2019 branch will not be imported to avoid creating inconsistent data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong>: If the person to be imported is already in your genealogy \u2013 without a FamilySearch ID number \u2013 and if he\/she is not linked to the branch being imported, he\/she will be added to your genealogy as a homonym.<br \/>\nThe data imported from FamilySearch will never overwrite personal data in your Heredis file.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Persons in Heredis linked to Persons in FamilySearch<\/h3>\n<p>In Heredis, various functions are available to help you find persons in your Heredis genealogy file who are linked to FamilySearch persons.<\/p>\n<h4>1) Search by numbers<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Search Menu &gt; Search by number<\/strong><br \/>\nEnter the FamilySearch ID number you are interested in and Heredis will automatically take you to the matching person, who will be displayed as the primary person.<\/p>\n<h4>2) Advanced search<\/h4>\n<p>The advanced search will allow you to apply filters to your list of persons in order to only display the persons linked to FamilySearch.<\/p>\n<p>From the Persons panel, on Windows in the &lt;<strong>Enhanced criteria<\/strong>&gt; replace &lt;<strong>None<\/strong>&gt; with &lt; <strong>Persons linked to FamilySearch<\/strong>&gt;. On Mac, select &lt;<strong>Genealogical Criteria<\/strong>&gt; and replace &lt;<strong>None<\/strong>&gt; with &lt;<strong>Persons linked to FamilySearch<\/strong>&gt;.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Windows) Family Search Enhanced Criteria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2330 size-full alignnone\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/family_search_enhanced_criteria_pc_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"789\" height=\"299\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>(Mac) Family Search Advanced Criteria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2329 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/family_search_advanced_criteria_mac_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"579\" height=\"151\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>3) Smart Search<\/h4>\n<p>To access it, click on the <strong>Search&gt;Smart Search<\/strong> tab.<br \/>\nSelect &lt;<strong>Persons<\/strong>&gt; and replace the &lt;<strong>Surname<\/strong>&gt; field with &lt;<strong>Linked to FamilySearch<\/strong>&gt; then click on the <strong>Search<\/strong> button to start searching. All persons linked to FamilySearch are displayed just below the Results area.
