In a Families from my Village book, you will find all the persons who had a major life event in the village you selected. This book follows the same logic as one-place studies, such as the Ortsfamilienbuch used by German genealogists.<\/p>\n<h3>Create a \u00ab Families from my Village \u00bb book<\/h3>\n<p>To start creating a Families from my Village book, click the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-22572\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/80-livre.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" \/> <strong>Books<\/strong> button on the toolbar or use the pull-down menu: <strong>Documents &gt; Books<\/strong>.<br \/>\nSelect <strong>Families from my Village<\/strong>. Choose a theme just as you would do it for any other type of Heredis book.<\/p>\n<p>In the lower part of the Book Layout window, choose the desired options. Remember to choose them <u>before<\/u> creating the book, as it will not be possible to change them after the book is created. You would otherwise need to restart the entire creation process to add data.<\/p>\n<p>Click on <strong>Select a place<\/strong> to choose among pre-existing places in your genealogy. Various tabs will allow you to further customize your book.<\/p>\n<h4>Structure tab<\/h4>\n<p><em>(Mac) Structure tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23748\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_composition_mac_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"344\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Windows) Structure tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23745\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_composition_pc_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"712\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check each of the boxes you are interested in. You are given the option to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add <strong>Details<\/strong> of the place. The book will include data from the Places Index: full name, notes, places subdivisions, name variants, and media available for the place.<\/li>\n<li>Add (= generate) <strong>Indexes<\/strong> for persons and places.\n<ul>\n<li>of persons<\/li>\n<li>other locations<\/li>\n<li>occupations<br \/>\nIt will let you locate where in the document (book) the person or place etc. you are looking for is mentioned. The number of elements in the book is indicated at the top of the index.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Include a <strong>Book Title<\/strong>, a <strong>Date<\/strong>, <strong>Page<\/strong> numbers, and the name of the <strong>Author<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Select a place<\/strong> and also add every person entered in the place variant(s) if there is any. In which case you can check the box <strong>Include Variants Places<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Quoting sources<\/strong> \u2013 or not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Include Private Data<\/strong> \u2013 or not. Uncheck boxes to ignore the fields you do not wish to include on the book cover.<br \/>\nClick on <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8829\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/16-plus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/> to add a picture, or on <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11953\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/16-moins-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/> to remove it.<\/p>\n<h4>Persons tab<\/h4>\n<p><em>(Mac) Persons tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23757\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_individu_mac_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"714\" height=\"243\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Windows) Persons tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23760\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_individu_pc_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"711\" height=\"231\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Surname Styles<\/strong>: you can set up your preferred format for a person\u2019s full name, with the option to include his\/her Prefix or Suffix \u2013 if you have provided such information in the person\u2019s data.<\/p>\n<p>Specify which given names should be mentioned: <strong>All Given Names<\/strong>, <strong>Only First Given Name<\/strong>, <strong>Only Usual Given Name<\/strong>, or even <strong>First Given Name and Initial of Others<\/strong>. Check the box entitled \u201c<strong>Include Nickname<\/strong>\u201d to include your ancestors\u2019 nicknames in the book.<\/p>\n<p>Check additional boxes available under this tab to include additional personal data such as<strong> Child Status<\/strong> \u2013 legitimate, adopted, etc. \u2013 <strong>Notes<\/strong>, <strong>Ahnentafel Number<\/strong> and <strong>children\u2019s Spouses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Events\/Facts tab<\/h4>\n<p><em>(Mac) Events\/Facts tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23763\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_event_mac_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"707\" height=\"436\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Windows) Events\/Facts tab<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23766\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ofb_evenement_pc_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"714\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Choose among the <strong>Dates Styles<\/strong> offered which should be used. If some dates have been entered using specific calendars, e.g. the French Republican Calendar, check the box entitled \u201c<strong>Use Gregorian Dates<\/strong>\u201d and Heredis will convert the dates for you automatically.<br \/>\nChoose among the Places Styles offered which should be used. Click on the color squares to modify the default color for each type of data. Click on the <strong>Font<\/strong> and <strong>Size<\/strong> drop-down list to modify them.<\/p>\n<p>Once your book layout is completely set up, click on <strong>Edit<\/strong> to generate your book in a .docx format. This document will no longer be linked to your Heredis software and will be automatically opened in your default or selected word processor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note on Windows:<\/strong> make sure your default word processor can handle .docx files.<\/p>\n<h3>Consult the generated book<\/h3>\n<p>By default, on <strong>Windows<\/strong>, Heredis saves the document under Documents &gt; BSD Concept &gt; Heredis &gt; Heredis Genealogy Reports.<br \/>\nOn <strong>Mac<\/strong>, you need to specify where to save the document after clicking on <strong>Edit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as it is created, the document will open up on your computer screen. You will be able to enter additional information: acknowledgments, a dedication, an introduction.<br \/>\nUse your word processor\u2019s features as usual. Changes made to the document will not affect your Heredis data since the document is independent from your genealogy software.<\/p>\n<p>Pictures can be resized or even removed if \u2013 for instance \u2013 they turn out to be low-quality photos. All you need to do is select the picture and hit the backspace or delete button on your keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>This document is defaulted to list family members under the name of the male spouse (usually the head of household), immediately followed by his parents\u2019 info. For this reason, female spouses and children \u2013 in general \u2013 are not listed at the \u201cfirst level\u201d as primary persons prefixed by a cross-reference number. They are \u201cattached\u201d to their spouse or parents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Content of the edited book<\/h3>\n<p>The main persons presented in this document are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All persons who are \u201cheads\u201d of a family who have lived in the place.<\/li>\n<li>All persons \u00abisolated\u00bb with only one major individual event in the place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These main persons appear at the first level in the book, sorted alphabetically, with a number in front of their name.<\/p>\n<h4>Data displayed<\/h4>\n<p><em>Primary Person<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Person&#8217;s number<br \/>\nAhnentafel number<br \/>\nSurname Given Name<br \/>\nIf a person\u2019s surname is a variant, the main surname will be displayed and the variant will be between parenthesis.
