Or you have imported your cousin&#8217;s genealogical data into yours and now find yourself with a bunch of duplicates\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Starting with Heredis 2022 <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-22664\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"17\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c.png 6982w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c-300x259.png 300w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c-1024x885.png 1024w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c-768x664.png 768w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c-1536x1328.png 1536w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/icone22c-1920x1660.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 20px) 100vw, 20px\" \/>, a brand-new merge module is now at your disposal! It will assist you from A to Z during this usually tricky process.<\/p>\n<p>To locate a duplicate, you may:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start a search for duplicates &#8211; read the article <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/find-duplicates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Find Duplicates<\/a>\u00a0in the file. Select two potential duplicates then click on <strong>Prepare merger<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Try to find potential duplicates in the persons&#8217; panel. Once you have spotted a pair, choose one of them as the primary person and click on the drop-down menu <strong>Person &gt; Merge with another person<\/strong>. Select the second person by clicking on the magnifying glass button (you will then access the list of existing persons to choose from).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Take a look at the summaries and comparison trees to make sure they are indeed duplicates. This window contains several columns, colored bullets, arrow buttons, and switches. Remember to back up your file before merging persons.<\/p>\n<h3>Columns and lines<\/h3>\n<p>The first column shows the names of the data categories and fields.<br \/>\nThe \u201cperson\u201d column on the left-hand side shows the first duplicate; the person\u2019s name, and his\/her potential Ahnentafel number can be found in the column heading.<br \/>\nThe \u201cperson\u201d column in the middle shows the data of the person who will result from the merger; this column is entitled &#8220;Merged person&#8221;.<br \/>\nThe \u201cperson\u201d column on the right-hand side shows the second duplicate; the person\u2019s name, and his\/her potential Ahnentafel number can be found in the column heading.<\/p>\n<p>To save some screen space, data is organized into categories (or \u201csections\u201d). These categories are folded; by clicking on the arrow <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22683\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/ArrowRight_16.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>preceding the category title, you can unfold it and view all the information available. The arrow will then point downwards; by clicking on it, you will be able to fold the section again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23685\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_fleche_repli_rubrique_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_fleche_repli_rubrique_en.png 245w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_fleche_repli_rubrique_en-241x300.png 241w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: If parents or spouses are duplicates, they must also be merged. Avoid doing this from the current merge; open their own merge so that you can select each item and avoid merging blindly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Info<\/strong>: Since Heredis 2026, it is possible to add several sets of parents. You can therefore keep more than two parents, which was not the case previously.<\/p>\n<h3>Colors<\/h3>\n<p>Heredis has prepped up the work for. The data with a green background (in the middle column) has been pre-selected by Heredis. If there is no doubt that the data is identical for both duplicates, then Heredis will show the result in the middle column, colored in green.<br \/>\n<u>However, we advise you take the time to doublecheck this data, just in case.<\/u><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23688\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_pasdeconflit_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_pasdeconflit_en.png 508w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_pasdeconflit_en-300x110.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If there is any conflict, Heredis displays the line in the middle column in pink. Heredis will not ignore data systematically, it is up to you to click on the switch to ignore a set of data. The green <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22701\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/diode-verte.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"21\" height=\"21\" \/> bullet means that Heredis has not encountered any potential issue.<br \/>\nA gray <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22704\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/diode-grise.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"21\" height=\"21\" \/> bullet shows that the dataset has been ignored.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom of the screen, you can visualize the progress of the conflict resolution. Click on it to move from one conflict to the next if you don&#8217;t want to check the remaining data.<\/p>\n<p>The list of information to be checked may be shorter or longer depending on the amount of data entered. Everything is detailed, nothing has been put aside. Therefore, you should take your time.<\/p>\n<h3>Arrows and crosses<\/h3>\n<p>To select the data you wish to save from one of the two duplicates, click on the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7381\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/1-precedent.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" \/>or <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7390\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2-suivant.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" \/> arrow located next to the Merged person column.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23697\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1911\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en.png 1911w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en-300x39.png 300w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en-1024x132.png 1024w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en-768x99.png 768w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/fusion_choix_en-1536x198.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1911px) 100vw, 1911px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some fields could be concatenated. Hence, if you want to retain data from both duplicates for Occupation, Given Names, Notes, etc., you can do so by clicking on the left arrow and then on the right one (or from right to left, it works too).<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, some fields do not allow you to cumulate data from both sides. For example, you need to be either a Natural or a Legitimate child, you can sign or you cannot. Such fields cannot be combined. Both will be removed, then you will only need to click on one of the 2 arrows to select the data you wish to keep. You can also choose not to keep any data at all. For example, if the merger allows me to gather all the information I need on a person, my Person Notes will no longer be of any use to me. For example, both persons have a Birth event. Heredis puts on each side the 2 Birth events, even if they differ. It\u2019s then up to you to solve the conflict. To do so, scroll down to the Person Events section, then to the Birth event line. Colored in pink, it will let you identify the issue right away. If you need to investigate some more before validating the date for good, you still have the option to save the 2 events. Click on the white rectangle, i.e. Birth: September 8, 1896\u00a0&#8211; Harwich (Barnstable County), and choose None. A second Birth event line appears so the 2 events are no longer on the same line. After validation of the merger, the merged person will own 2 birth events.
