Heredis provides a tool, available in all entry fields for indi\u00adviduals, to avoid creating a person already saved in your file. Heredis will control for duplicates at all times during the entry of data. If the person already exists, select him\/her in the matching persons list and click on <strong>Choose<\/strong> to link the person instead of creating a new one.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17974\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/duplicates_control_pc_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/duplicates_control_pc_en.png 795w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/duplicates_control_pc_en-300x239.png 300w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/duplicates_control_pc_en-768x612.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Info<\/strong> \u2022 For even more pertinence, Heredis includes in the list of poten\u00adtial duplicates, those persons already entered bearing a variant of the name you typed.<\/p>\n<h4>In the Add or Choose\u2026 screen<\/h4>\n<p>With the first letters typed in the <strong>Surname<\/strong> or <strong>Given Names<\/strong> fields, you see, in the <strong>Matching Persons<\/strong> column, the list of individuals already entered who may match the person. Step by step, as you enter new letters, the list of duplicates is updated.<\/p>\n<h4>In the Family Group Data tab<\/h4>\n<p>When you type in one of the fields of this screen, the full name of a person already entered, the <strong>Enter New Data<\/strong> icon (gray arrow) turns red <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-735\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/12-doublon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>. Click this icon to see a list of individuals who may correspond to the person.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Family Group Data<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1020 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/family_group_data_duplicates_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1435\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Check if a proposed person is in fact a duplicate<\/h4>\n<p>Select the person from the Matching Persons list or check in the Summary panel. Here you have more information for more effective comparison.<br \/>\nIf it appears that the person you wish to create already exists, select him\/her from the Matching Persons list and click the <strong>Choose<\/strong> but\u00adton. This will cancel the creation of a new person, and thus avoids a duplicate in your genealogy.<br \/>\nIf you do not find a duplicate, continue.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Search for duplicates in the file<\/h3>\n<p>Heredis controls while imputting but the importing of data from other genealogists, or a moment of inattention may create duplicates. This powerful tool is essential for maintaining an impeccable gene\u00adalogy file. Research and verification is carried out in one click. The results are clearly displayed and indicate the probability of duplica\u00adtion.<\/p>\n<p>The search for duplicate identifies persons entered several times in the genealogy file. The permanent control indicates possible duplicates as you tip but duplicates can be made because of an import file or an unguarded moment.<br \/>\nChoose <strong>Find &gt; Find Duplicates<\/strong>\u2026 or click <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-739\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/rechercheDoublons.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/> in the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-16647\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/recherche.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" \/> button in the toolbar.<\/p>\n<h4>Setup parameters<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-743 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/search_for_duplicates.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select your search criteria for comparing the given name:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ignore:\u00a0<\/strong>the search will consider only surnames,<\/li>\n<li><strong>At least one of the Given Names is identical:\u00a0<\/strong>a person whose given names are all included in the given names of another individual with the same surname will be considered as a potential duplicate,<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>First Given Name is identical<\/strong>: an individual with the same surname and the same given name as another individual will be considered as a potential duplicate,<\/li>\n<li>Tick the box <strong>One Given Name of One parent is identical:\u00a0<\/strong>a person whose given names are all included in the given names of another individual with the same surname will be considered as a potential duplicate<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2576 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/duplicates_option_given_names_pc_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Select your search criteria for comparing events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ignore Events:\u00a0 <\/strong>the search will consider only given names and surnames,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dates Strictly identical:\u00a0 <\/strong>when an event has been detected and assumed to be an identical date, it must be displayed exactly in the same way in both files (Birth about 1801 and 01\/1801 may not be considered as two identical events),<\/li>\n<li><strong>Years Strictly identical:<\/strong> when an event has been detected and assumed to be an identical year for the event, it must be identical in both files,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Define a Range of Years<\/strong>:\u00a0 if you do not require exactly the same dates as the criterion for comparison, indicate how many years from a date to be tolerated for considering two events as identical If you specify range as \u00ab10\u00bb, events that took place 10 years before or after another event may be considered as potential duplicates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2577 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/duplicates_option_events_pc_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can limit the search for comparing surnames:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tick the box <strong>Limit to a surname and its variants<\/strong> to limit the search integrating this criterion.<\/li>\n<li>Click then on the magnifying glass to select the required surname.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click <strong>Start Search<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Results<\/h4>\n<p>The list of all potential duplicates identified in your genealogy is dis\u00adplayed in the <strong>Results<\/strong> tab. A person may appear several times in the list if there are sev\u00aderal possible duplicates.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2578 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/duplicates_results_pc_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"592\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By clicking an individual, you display in the lower part of the column a summary of information concerning this person and in the right column his\/her potential duplicates. By clicking on one of them, you display opposing summaries of the two selected persons.<\/p>\n<p>You can use the following options for dealing with duplicates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Delete <\/strong>a person: it removes the selected individual in the left column of the screen if you consider that the duplicate is adequate and you do not need to merge them to obtain additional information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mark Duplicates<\/strong>: all the supposed duplicates matching your criteria for comparison are marked. Then just check and delete the marked individuals if you wish.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edit Duplicates Report<\/strong>: all the supposed duplicates matching your criteria for comparison are printed in the form of an alphabetical list.
