Check the list of matching persons already in your file in order to not input duplicates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the <strong>Add or Choose Spouse<\/strong> screen, complete the input fields with the information you have.<\/p>\n<p>Gender is prefilled. To change the gender in order to indicate a same sex union for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>(<strong>Mac<\/strong>) click the <strong>Do not specify gender<\/strong> lock, and change the gender<\/li>\n<li>(<strong>Windows<\/strong>) simply click in the gender box and change the gender<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In case of same sex union, Heredis will alert you in order to make sure it is not a mistake. To validate the new person, click outside the entry field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Info<\/strong> \u2022 For more information on adding the spouse of a child in the <strong>Family Group Data<\/strong> tab, see <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/input-a-family-group-data\">Input a Family Group Data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to enter the type of union: Marriage, Religious Marriage, Other marital link, Marriage Contract.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Link an existing person<\/h3>\n<h4>During data entry<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Place the person for whom you want to add a spouse, as the primary person.<\/li>\n<li>Create the link.\n<ul>\n<li>Choose <strong>Person &gt; Add Spouse<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-368\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Ajouter.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/> button on the toolbar and choose <strong>Add Spouse\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-373\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ajoutConjoint.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>+<\/strong> (xx spouse(s)) sign in the display field of the spouse on the <strong>Family<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the <strong>Add or Choose Spouse<\/strong> screen, enter the surname and given names in the<strong> Personal Data<\/strong> field. Select the person to be linked from the list of <strong>Matching Persons<\/strong> to the right of the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Choose<\/strong> or double-click the name in the list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Info<\/strong> \u2022 To access this screen from the <strong>Family Group Data<\/strong> tab, click the red arrow <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17257\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Fleche_bouton_highlight_12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"12\" height=\"12\" \/> that appears on the data line.<\/p>\n<p>Enter the information you have about the union.\u00a0Don&#8217;t forget to enter the type of union: Marriage, Religious Marriage, Other marital link, Marriage Contract.<\/p>\n<h4>Drag and drop<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Place the person for whom you want to add a spouse, as the primary person.<\/li>\n<li>Take the spouse from a side panel (<strong>Persons, Bookmarks, Relations\u2026<\/strong>), and release on the display area of the screen (display area for spouses on the <strong>Immediate Family<\/strong> tab or the <strong>Families<\/strong> fields on the <strong>Personal Data<\/strong> and <strong>Family Group Data<\/strong> tabs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Information concerning the family<\/h3>\n<p>The data input screen for a marriage and the <strong>Families<\/strong> fields on the <strong>Personal Data<\/strong> or <strong>Family Group Data<\/strong> tabs show specific fields to be completed, as well as a field for family media on the <strong>Immediate Family<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate date and place of marriage and any other information you have on the family event.<\/li>\n<li>Specify the family status in the pop-up menu.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong>: the spouse is created as well as the link to the primary per\u00adson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See also <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/family-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Family Status<\/a> article.<\/p>\n<h4>Family number<\/h4>\n<p>The family number, when there are several marriages, appears in the <strong>Family <\/strong>tab. It is assigned automatically according to the dates of marriage. To change the family number, select a spouse and move him\/her to the desired position.<\/p>\n<h3>Families order<\/h3>\n<p>Heredis enters unions based on the date of the main family event.<br \/>\nIf you know the sequence of unions without knowing the dates, or if the chronology does not seem exact to you, you can change the fam\u00adilies order.<\/p>\n<h4>Change the families order<\/h4>\n<p><strong>(Windows) <\/strong>Click Right on one of the spouses, then choose<strong> Order of spouses<\/strong>. Use the <strong>Before<\/strong> and <strong>After<\/strong> buttons to organize and click <strong>Close<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(Mac<\/strong>) In<strong> Immediate Family<\/strong>, use drag and drop. Select the box or line of family to be moved, and release it at the desired location.<\/p>\n<p>A blue line indicates the destination position.<\/p>\n<h4>Windows &#8211; Leave Heredis determine the order<\/h4>\n<p>You may cancel a manual order change of families if you have made mistakes or entered new dates. Right-click the list of families and choose <strong>Order of spouses<\/strong>, then tick the box <strong>Leave Heredis to determine the order<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Mac &#8211; To change the order again<\/h4>\n<p>As before, in<strong> Immediate Family<\/strong>, use drag and drop. Select the box or line of family to be moved, and release it at the desired location.<\/p>\n<h3>Delete a family<\/h3>\n<p>Heredis allows you to delete:<br \/>\n\u2022 Either the person. In this case the person will no longer exist in your genealogy file.<br \/>\n\u2022 Or the family link that links two spouses. In this case both spouses remain in your genealogy file.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Info <\/strong>\u2022 If both spouses have had children together, you must first unlink the couple\u2019s children for one of the spouses. When you remove the bond of union, the events that were assigned to this family will also be deleted.<\/p>\n<h4>All tabs<\/h4>\n<p>1. Place one of the spouses as the primary person.<br \/>\n2. Choose <strong>Person &gt; Delete &gt; Selected Spouse Link<\/strong>, or click <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-363\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/sup-moins.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/>\u00a0in the toolbar, then <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1512\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/supprConjoint.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/>.<\/p>\n<h4>Personal Data tab<\/h4>\n<p>1. Select the spouse to be unlinked in the <strong>Families<\/strong> fields.<br \/>\n2. Click <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1141\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/16-moins.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0(Unlink the selected spouse from the family) at the bottom of the <strong>Families<\/strong> fields.<\/p>\n<h4>Family Group Data tab<\/h4>\n<p>1. Select the spouse to be unlinked on the <strong>Families<\/strong> fields.<br \/>\n2.
