The Ancestors or Descendants books are perfect for getting the interest of cousins or other relatives, even if they know nothing about genealogy.<\/p>\n<p>You can edit written books to tell your genealogy. From the information you have gathered in your file, Heredis generates a complete book in written form and automatically adapts the vocabulary to the data type. This book includes cover page, dedication, acknowledgments, preface and introduction.<\/p>\n<p>The written books offered in Heredis are elaborated according to the recommendations of the author of the Filiatus software. The presentation and the writing are particularly careful. Written in the style of the genealogy dictionaries of olden times (Father Anselme or Dictionary of the nobility), their presentation is nevertheless friendly and comprehensible by all, even neophytes on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>The ancestors of each character are analyzed in all seams, to detect possible cousinings and to create the branches and sub-branches corresponding to the family structure studied.<\/p>\n<p>Heredis puts two types of book at your disposal, books written from the primary person and books of the type \u00abdictionary\u00bb based on all your genealogy.<\/p>\n<p>With Heredis 2022, the book Families from my village has appeared. Changes made to a theme are memorized for future use of the same theme.<br \/>\nBy default, the book construction screen opens in simplified mode. Only the most common options are displayed. To view all available options, click the <strong>Detailed Options<\/strong> button at the bottom of this screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: In detailed mode, the label of this button changes to <strong>Simplified Options<\/strong>, allowing you to return to simple mode at any time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the <strong>Structure<\/strong> tab.\n<ul>\n<li>Check the information to be included: photo album, header and foo\u00adter data, private data.<\/li>\n<li>Choose where to place notes, at the bottom of the page, at the end of the section or in the text.<\/li>\n<li>Limit your document. Indicate the number of generations desired, limit to a surname, place, edit your document in several volumes.<\/li>\n<li>Choose how to present sources: Quoting sources, Complete sources, or No Sources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Depending on the type of document selected, some of the options mentioned above do not appear.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19364\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/book_structure_pc_en-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"754\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/book_structure_pc_en-1.png 754w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/book_structure_pc_en-1-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the<strong> Front Cover<\/strong> tab.\n<ul>\n<li>Check the boxes for the information to be included on the cover.<\/li>\n<li>Modify the title, add a subtitle, indicate who is the author.<\/li>\n<li>Insert a picture to customize the cover, click on + button at the bottom right to add a picture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19368\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/books_frontcover_pc_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"754\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/books_frontcover_pc_en.png 754w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/books_frontcover_pc_en-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the <strong>Persons<\/strong> tab.\n<ul>\n<li>Choose the surname and given name formats.<\/li>\n<li>Check the boxes to add <strong>Prefix<\/strong>, <strong>Suffix<\/strong> and <strong>Nickname<\/strong> if you entered these fields.<\/li>\n<li>Check the boxes to include the following information: <strong>pictures<\/strong>,<strong> child status<\/strong>, <strong>signature<\/strong>, <strong>notes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>sundry links<\/strong>, facts and, starting with Heredis 2025, <strong>Alternate Names<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Indicate which calculated data you would like: <strong>ahnentafel number<\/strong>, <strong>duration of marriage<\/strong>, <strong>Stepfamilies, Consanguinity degree<\/strong> precise the maximum wantred degree.<\/li>\n<li>Tick the corresponding boxes to include in the document the <strong>spouses<\/strong> of each child and whether or not they have <strong>descendants<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: If the person in the record has several sets of parents entered, the main couple appears first. The other couples are listed under Other Parents. Check the <strong>Use Gregorian<\/strong> <strong>Dates<\/strong> box to display all dates in this calendar, regardless of the calendar in which they were entered.<\/li>\n<li>Choose the place style from the drop-down menu. Select which elements of the places you want to display in the document from the ones you have entered. Heredis offers you all programs that enable editing and ins\u00adtalled on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>Windows<\/strong>) Heredis will launch the software by default for .docx files. Make sure you have a word processor by default overwise the document won&#8217;t open. It will be saved in Documnets &gt; BSD Concept &gt; Heredis &gt; Heredis Genealogical Reports but won&#8217;t open. You&#8217;ll be able to open it once you&#8217;ll have a word processor.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click <strong>Edit<\/strong> to start the word processor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: Once your book is created it becomes an independant document from Heredis. You can modify it in your word processor. If you encounter {XE} tags in your book, it is not due to Heredis, see <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/xe-xxxxxxxxxx-names-tags-in-your-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">{XE \u201cxxxxxxxxxx Names\u201d } tags in your documents, what to do?<\/a> article.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Info<\/strong> \u2022 Indexes are not directly integrated with books because each word processor handles them in a specific way. However, index entries are marked so that you can generate an index after the docu\u00adment is created and opened in your word processor. Put the cursor where you want and generate the index:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in Word, menu <strong>Insert<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Tables and Index<\/strong> or <strong>References<\/strong>&gt; <strong>Insert Index<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>in LibreOffice, menu <strong>Insert<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Indexes and Tables<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mac Note<\/strong>: The text editor Page doesn\u2019t manage index.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/export-persons-from-a-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Export persons from a book<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Print Books<\/h3>\n<p><span id=\"s2_1\">Once the book is created, you can print it from your word processor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Click on <strong>Edit<\/strong> to start book creation. Once generated, the file opens in your default word processor. It becomes independent of Heredis and your genealogy file.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows note<\/strong>: if you don&#8217;t have a default word processor on your system, or if Windows has defaulted you to Microsoft Office Suite even though you don&#8217;t have a license, the file may not open. It is nevertheless saved by default in Documents &gt; BSD Concept &gt; Heredis &gt; Heredis genealogical reports. Tell your system which software to use to open .docx files. If necessary, consult our technical FAQ article <a href=\"https:\/\/heredis.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/5086756131868-Modifying-a-default-program-in-Windows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modifying a default program in Windows<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, to print, then click on the <strong>File<\/strong> menu <strong>&gt; Print<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"s2_3\" data-darkreader-inline-bgcolor=\"\">From your word processor, you can save in a format other than . docx, for example in .pdf.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"s2_4\" data-darkreader-inline-bgcolor=\"\">Click the <strong>File<\/strong> menu &gt; <strong>Save As<\/strong>, change the format (the operation differs from one word processor to another), choose the save location and click <strong>Save<\/strong> or <strong>OK<\/strong> depending on the software.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"s2_5\" data-darkreader-inline-bgcolor=\"\">For more details, refer to the user manual of your word processor or printer for printing configuration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Heredis is optimized for Microsoft Office (paid) or LibreOffice (free) word processing available for download. Heredis is compatible with Microsoft Office for Windows as from Office 2016 and for Mac as from Office 2019.
