In the entry field to the right of &lt;<strong>Begins With<\/strong>&gt;, type in the first letters of the surname you are looking for and click on the <strong>Search<\/strong> button to find all relevant persons in your genealogy.<\/p>\n<p>The initial search criterion will determine what the next field options are.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>(Windows) Selecting criteria<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2221 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/criteria_search_pc2_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1141\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>(Mac) Selecting criteria<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2200 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/criteria_search_mac_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"661\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on each of the fields and specify the type of information you are looking for in your genealogy. You can combine criteria such as<strong> Persons, Relations, Families, Events, Facts<\/strong> to build more or less intricate searches depending on the number of criteria you have selected.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1466\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Gomme_16.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/> button to the right of the &lt;<strong>Choose a search model<\/strong>&gt; pop-up menu allows you to remove all existing criteria and to clear the list of results.<\/li>\n<li>The <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8829\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/16-plus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0and<strong> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11941\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/16-moins.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/strong> buttons to the right of a criteria line allow you to add or remove a criterion. This option allows Heredis to search all data that match at least one of the criteria you have selected. This allows you to verify that the search you have created matches your needs. A message alerts you in case the search you are creating is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>Other options are available from the cogwheel <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-602\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/roue_dentee_xxl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"23\" \/>\u00a0in the upper right corner. If you tick<strong> Search in variants<\/strong>, the searches will be extended to the variants you entered in your genealogy. If you activate the <strong>Comprehensive<\/strong> mode, two additional buttons will be displayed to the left of the<strong> Search<\/strong> button: <strong>Search in results<\/strong> and <strong>Add to results<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Extra buttons in Comprehensive mode in Smart Search<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19470\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_extra_buttons_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_extra_buttons_en.png 451w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_extra_buttons_en-300x25.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Search in results<\/strong> allows you to research data within the results of your previous search in order to refine your results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Add to results<\/strong> allows you to add your search results to the results of your previous search. Thanks to this option, you can build a list of results, adding up data from a series of searches.<\/p>\n<p>If you enable <strong>Comprehensive<\/strong> mode, two additional columns appear on the left in the search results: you can select the row and sort by gender.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19473\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_new_column_mac_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_new_column_mac_en.png 675w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/smart_search_new_column_mac_en-300x149.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: When you consider your research is complete, hide the Criteria area\u00a0<strong>(Mac)<\/strong> by clicking on the <strong>Criteria<\/strong> banner <strong>(Windows)\u00a0<\/strong>by clicking on the arrow on the right side. This will leave more space available to display the results from searches and processing. To verify the results displayed in the list are correct, click on any line in the list of results and the details will appear in the <strong>Summary<\/strong> panel. The data displayed in this panel varies according to the tab you selected under <strong>Results<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Should you notice a mistake to be corrected, double-click on the line in the list of results to directly access the person\u2019s <strong>Personal<\/strong> <strong>Data<\/strong> in your genealogy file.<\/p>\n<h3>Mac Specificity: Results panel<\/h3>\n<p>The results of your smart search are also available in the <strong>Results<\/strong> panel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Results Panel \u2013 List of found persons<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2209 size-full alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/result_panel_mac_EN.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"502\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can navigate in Heredis while keeping your search results on hand. Use the &lt;<strong>Persons<\/strong>&gt; pop-up menu to select and display results from the <strong>Families, Events<\/strong> or <strong>Facts<\/strong> tab. At any point, you can go back to the Smart Search screen by clicking the button <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1676\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/rechercheMC.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/>\u00a0to the right of the pop-up menu.<\/p>\n<p>From this panel, select a person and use the drag and drop feature to easily complete your genealogy.<\/p>\n<h3>Processing results<\/h3>\n<p>Now that you have found persons, families, events or facts in your file, you may want to update this data, share it with a cousin, or even publish it in a document.<\/p>\n<p>The Processing feature allows you to do this and much more, based on the data you have selected in the <strong>Results<\/strong> section under the current tab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: in <strong>Comprehensive<\/strong> mode, by clicking the <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-602\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/roue_dentee_xxl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"23\" \/> cogwheel in the upper right corner, checkboxes appear at the beginning of each data line so you can select the data you wish to process. All lines are selected by default; you can untick, one at a time, the lines of results you do not want to include in your processing. Or you can decide to <strong>Deselect all<\/strong> and then tick the data lines you want to include in your processing.
