Choose the genealogy file in your file directory, and then click <strong>Open<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>(<strong>Mac<\/strong>) To open a file from the <strong>Home<\/strong> page, if you already have a file launched, click the <strong>Home<\/strong> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-265\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-accueil.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" \/> button. On the home page, select <strong>Heredis File<\/strong> in the <strong>Open<\/strong> menu. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> and then select the file.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19056\" src=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/open_file_mac_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"309\" height=\"99\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/open_file_mac_en.png 309w, https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/open_file_mac_en-300x96.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 309px) 100vw, 309px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>(<strong>Mac<\/strong>) To open a Heredis file from the Finder, double-click the file icon or drag it to the Heredis application icon.<br \/>\nYou may open a Heredis file created with an older version of the soft\u00adware from the home page if they were created with a version equal to or after Heredis 2014. To select another location, select it in your file directory.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nInfo<\/strong><strong> Windows and Mac<\/strong><em><strong> \u2022<\/strong><\/em> Files created after the 2017 version are identical, regardless of the platform your using: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android. You can directly exchange data without any preparation or conversion.<\/p>\n<p>For more details on opening a GEDCOM file, see <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/create-a-new-file-from-gedcom-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Create a new file from a GEDCOM 5.5.1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/creating-a-new-genealogy-from-a-gedcom-7-file\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Creating a new genealogy from a GEDCOM 7 file<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/help.heredis.com\/en\/what-is-a-gedcom-file\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What is a GEDCOM?<\/a> is your file is in GEDCOM format.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Open a recently used file<\/h3>\n<p>To open a file you worked on recently, open Heredis&#8217; home page, (<strong>Windows<\/strong>) choose it on the recent files area, (<strong>Mac<\/strong>) select the file from the <strong>Open Recent<\/strong> menu, select the file in the drop down menu and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also select <strong>File<\/strong> menu <strong>&gt;<\/strong> <strong>Open Recent.\u00a0<\/strong>Choose the file and click OK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mac Info<\/strong> \u2022 To delete the list of recently used files, choose <strong>File<\/strong> menu &gt;<strong> Open Recent &gt; Clear<\/strong>. The file will not be deleted from your hard drive disk but won&#8217;t appear in the Recent file list.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows Info<em>\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>To delete a recently used file, click on the cogwheel near the name of the file you want to remove, then choose <strong>Remove from Recent Files.<\/strong> The file will not be deleted from your hard drive disk but won&#8217;t appear in the Recent file list.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\" data-darkreader-inline-color=\"\">Important : Heredis is a desktop software, which means your files are on your computer&#8217;s hard drive. You are the only one able to access it, we do not have your files. That is why you need to save your work on an external device. <span id=\"s2_1\" data-darkreader-inline-bgcolor=\"\">If the file is missing from the Recent Files list, just because it is no longer in the Recent Files list does not mean that it has been deleted!<\/span> <span id=\"s2_2\" data-darkreader-inline-bgcolor=\"\">Heredis never deletes your files! It\u2019s just that the list of recent files has been cleaned.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To find your files, on Windows, they are usually stored in Documents &gt; BSD Concept &gt; Heredis &gt; Heredis files.
