Since Heredis 2017: How to manage images extracted from notes?

Managing images extracted from notes

Your file has been converted to the new Heredis format. In this new version, Heredis does not allow the addition of images in the « Note » field (individual note, family note, source note, etc.).
If you inserted images into your notes when converting your file, Heredis applies the following Processing:
– creates the folder Name of YourGenealogy-NotePictureBackup (this folder is created in the folder in which your genealogy is saved).
– copies the notes’ images in this folder.
– replaces notes’ images with a link. By clicking on this link (press the CTRL and click the link at the same time), Heredis displays a preview of the image that has been moved.

Heredis provides you with a tool to manage these images and automatically reassign them to a person, family, event … depending on the context.
To access this feature, click Tools> Manage Images Extracted from Notes.

All images that have been extracted from the notes are displayed in the management tool. A column type tells you what the extracted image is, a person, an event, a source, etc.
When you click the name of an image, Heredis displays a preview of the image on the right and under the list of extracted images, the detail of the note in which it appeared.

You want to reassign the images to persons, events, sources…

  • click on the checkboxes of the images to be processed or click the Select All button to select all images.
  • In the Action section, check the Retrieve image as media option
If you do not want to keep the link in the note, or retain the extracted images in the Folder NameofYourGenealogy-NotePictureBackup, check the Remove link from the Note and Delete Image File
  • Click the Apply to Selection button to have Heredis make the desired changes

Then find these images in the various media tabs related to persons, families, sources, events, etc.

You do not want to keep images

  • click on the checkboxes of the images to be processed or click the Select All button to select all images.
  • In the Action section, select the options Remove link from the note and Delete image file you do not want to keep the link in the note, or keep the extracted images in the folderNameofYourGenealogy-NotePictureBackup,
  • click the Apply to Selection button

Heredis will remove the links to the images in the notes and will also delete the selection of images in the folder NameofYourGenealogy-NotePictureBackup.

NB: Heredis does not accept images in the notes because a note is initially a field that accepts only text. If Heredis allowed images to be added to the notes, it would
generate an instability of your genealogy file and cause multiple problems during the saving or publishing of your data. Therefore, a note can only contain text.
